After concluding the auction, every team looks quite balanced on paper. But will they be able to imitate great performances on the pitch?
Let’s rank every team out of 10 to find out which is the strongest:
- Chennai Super Kings : 7.5/10
They have pretty solid core and also they bought England’s young sensational allrounder: Sam Curran to bolster their squad. They have quite an experienced side which has its pros and cons. Nevertheless, since they play 7 out of 14 matches in their home ground, they might easily qualify for the playoffs considering the quality spinners they possess. However, the fitness and form of Kedar Jadhav, Raina, Watson, Dhoni and Rayudu might be concerning.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore: 7/10
They have decent bowling lineup this season but they have some holes in their batting department. Who will they open with?(PP & Finch, Devdutt & Finch or Phillipe & Devdutt). Also, who will be their top 4 overseas players? ( AB, Finch, Moeen & Morris or AB, Finch/Phillipe, Morris & Steyn. If they wan to qualify for playoffs, they have to find their perfect eleven as soon as possible.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad: 7/10
Their batting is heavily dependent on Bairstow, Warner & Kane Williamson so their middle order is fragile. Slower ball\knuckle ball bowlers are being easily picked nowadays so how their bowlers will perform will affect their gameplay this season.
4. Delhi Capitals: 7.5/10
They have one of the strongest batting lineup. They possess quality spinners and pacers too. The only concern will be if Harshal Patel, Ishant Sharma and Rabada can replicate their form from previous season. They have a pretty strong opportunity to make into the finals.
5. Kolkata Knight Riders: 8/10
They have one of the strongest Playing XI which is capable of winning trophy for the third time. Their only weakness is they do not have a leader in their bowling group. Pat Cummins is not the type of effective bowler in death as he’s hyped to be.
6. Rajasthan Royals: 5.5/10
RR is the weakest team of the season and absence of Jofra Archer is an insult to injury.
7. Kings XI Punjab: 7/10
With KL as captain, they have formidable lineup but not so competitive. Their bowling is a bit of a weakness with absence of quality spinner. Barring Chris Jordan, they lack a quality death bowler.
8. Mumbai Indians: 9/10
Mumbai has the strongest lineup among all the teams. They have the best Indian core in Batting lineup. Their bowling lineup includes Malinga, Bumrah, Boult, Coulter Nile, Mcclenaghan and Kulkarni. Krunal and Rahul Chahar provide pretty good spin lineup.
Their probable lineup might look like this:
- Rohit Sharma
- Quinton De Kock
- SuryaKumar Yadav
- Ishan Kishan(WK)
- Kieron Pollard
- Krunal Pandya
- Hardik Pandya
- Rahul Chahar
- Trent Boult/Coulter Nile
- Lasith Malinga
- Jasprit Bumrah
And I will not be surprised if they win the title this year too.
