IPL 2020: Playing XI of Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals were pretty robust at the auction table and they did the homework well. They got some bargain buys and now they look one of the balanced side on the paper. After finishing third on last season’s IPL, they will be looking to be a bit more ambitious and go after that Trophy, which they never had a taste of. They are the only team alongside KXIP and RCB to never have won a single IPL title so they will looking to past that drought.

After changing the team jersey as well as name( Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals), they managed to change their fortune as well since it has been more than 6 years that they had entered playoffs.

Looking at the auction, they roped in a quality australian wicketkeeper, Alex Carey and an exciting talent Shimron Hetmyer. Hetmyer was all guns blazing in the matches against India prior to the auction so it was logical that he went for quite a high price. They also traded in Ravichandran Ashwin from KXIP which was a valuable addition since he brings immeasurable experience into the squad, however, the trading of Ajinkya Rahane is baffling for many of DC fans as they have too many openers in their squad (Shikhar Dhawan,Prithvi Shaw,Jason Roy,Alex Carey)

They have a quality spin core which suits the pitches at kotla(their home stadium) very well. Their pace battery too is extremely promising with the presence of Chris Woakes, Kagiso Rabada, Keemo Paul,Mohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma. Now, let’s look at the possible Playing XI that they might deploy in the field:

  1. Shikhar Dhawan
  2. Prithvi Shaw/ Ajinkya Rahane
  3. Shreyas Iyer
  4. Shimron Hetmyer
  5. Rishabh Pant (WK)
  6. Marcus Stoinis/ Chris Woakes
  7. Keemo Paul
  8. Ravichandran Ashwin
  9. Amit Mishra
  10. Kagiso Rabada
  11. Ishant Sharma/Mohit Sharma

They might even opt to play three spinners by bringing in Sandeep Lamichhane instead of Keemo Paul in the home matches and in Chepauk. This XI looks balanced in terms of both batting and bowling.

It will be exciting to¬† look the partnership between Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer; they both are hard hitters of the ball and it’d be a nightmare for any bowler who is going to bowl to them.Rishabh Pant is a different level beast when it comes to IPL than in International cricket.

With such a vigorously talented group of players, DC will expect to be in the top 4 and fighting for the IPL title. Hope they will bring the trophy home this time around.
