IPL 2019 is approaching near as its already a mid January and its only around 2 months left.
Today I am going to rank eight teams based on how balanced is their squad and their chances of winning IPL 2019.
1. Mumbai Indians
Let me make one thing clear for you. Mumbai will be able to win title for 4th time only if Hardik Pandya isn’t banned for playing this year’s IPL. Their team has been one of the balanced team for couple of years. Last time something went bad for them and didn’t even qualify for playoffs. However, they have Malinga and Behrendorff back in their team which will add a spark in their bowling. Also Rohit Sharma must play as an opener so that their batting is stable. If they are able to gain momentum within first few matches then they will be the most difficult team to beat.
2. Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad has been a team with the most dominant bowling lineup who defended even a target of 118 which is not a joke. Last year their only weakness was batting. Except Dhawan and Kane Williamson no one was contributing with the bat. Even though they don’t have Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner has returned and also the best T20 player in last couple of months, Johny Bairstow was picked by them. They have their job done pretty well but with only 4 overseas quota, they might not be able to play all in Starting XI. So they are in 2nd position.
3. Royal Challengers Bangalore
They are always the hyped team who always seem to have challenging team but fails to perform. This year they bought Shimron Hetmyer, Shivam Dubey, Marcus Stoinis, Aksdeep Nath, Prayas Ray Barman who will be playing a vital role for making the team balanced. If players other than Virat and AB contribute with the bat in needy time then only I can ensure that they will be lifting the trophy for the first time. However, keeping track of their past performance and over confidence, I have listed them at #3.
4. Kings XI Punjab
I don’t know if KL Rahul will continue his last year’s stint this time too. Gayle is out of form so I don’t think he will be in playing XI. Their weakness is batting order since except Rahul there is no reliable indian batsman. Karun Nair and Mayank Agarwal has to contribute consistently. This year they have Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Nicholas Pooran, Prabhsimran Singh, Mohammed Shami and Varun Chakravarthy. Looking at their squad in paper, I am sure that they will make it to Top 4.
5. Chennai Super Kings
They were the champions last season but we cannot ensure that they will defend title this year. Their death bowling will be a worry since Ngidi is the only reliable one while Bravo seem to have past his prime. In their batting, I don’t think Watson will be in same form as of last year. I think Rayudu once again will be their heart of batting and I also doubt Dhoni’s batting this season. So they make the list at #5.
6. Kolkota Knight Riders
KKR doesn’t have reliable backups for Chris Lynn who will be leaving IPL midway. They have bought Carlos Brathwaite at 5cr who literally doesn’t make sense to me. It’s because i don’t think he will be in the playing XI unless Russell gets injured. They don’t have much experience in their pace department however their Playing XI is capable of taking them in top 4 if anyone doesn’t get injured. Taking the history of Lynn’s injury and lack of proper backups in consideration, they are ranked in #6.
7. Rajasthan Royals
They are the underdogs of IPL. Buttler is the only reliable batsman in their lineup who can consistently strike in every matches. They would have made it in top 4 if Smith hadn’t been injured. Absence of Smith will once again haunt them and since Buttler and Stokes will leave after May 1,it will be a difficult battle for them.
8. Delhi Daredevils
Delhi is once again at #8. This doesn’t mean in any case that DD squad is weak. DD have balance in their side except the fact that they lack quality bowlers. They made it at #8 because there are other 7 teams which seem to have a better squad than them. Prithvi Shaw is suffering from injury and if he isn’t fit to play in IPL then it will be a huge blow for DD. Shreyas Iyer is a talented youth but he is inexperienced in terms of captaincy. They have good batting lineup but their bowling lineup is worst among the 8 teams. So they are at #8.
This is my opinion based on my point of view and how the squad of each team looked to me. So don’t take it personally if your favourite is at the bottom than your expectations. Do you think you can do a better ranking? Then please write it down at the comment section. I would appreciate it very much.
